Sudbury Joinery and Fred Taylor

I founded Sudbury Joinery as a small cabinet-making workshop in Sudbury, Massachusetts.   I have been a woodworker for over 25 years. I have designed and built house additions, a New England barn, kitchens, built-ins, case pieces, and clocks.

My passion is traditional New England furniture and interiors.  “Traditional” normally implies the period between 1700 and 1850 when American craftsmanship reached its pinnacle.  Both in terms of design and craftsmanship, the traditional architectural landmarks and period furniture that can be found in the Boston area have been an inspiration in my own work.

I work with clients to create designs that suit their needs and preferences and that conform to existing architecture and design elements. Furniture and clocks I make are often replicas of originals or designed with originals in mind.  In these cases, construction is mostly by hand using traditional joinery methods and finishes.  The attention to detail and authenticity I strive for in these pieces carries over to built-in projects and kitchens.   In these works, the practical needs of modern living merge with the aesthetics of the past.  In all cases I use materials of the highest quality.

My work has appeared in Fine Woodworking Magazine, and I am a member of the Society of American Period Furniture Makers, The Guild of New Hampshire Woodworkers, and the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors.  Fred Taylor
